Clanfield School pupils have recently been involved in Leadership Group meetings. Leadership Groups were started earlier this year and are where all pupils have the opportunity to help the school flourish and make a difference, because for example not everyone got to be a School Counsellor . We meet with a staff leader every 6 weeks to discuss topics of interest and actionable steps. Here are our new four groupsL
Global Citizens
In the Global Citizens group we have been thinking of how to make our community a better place. We have decided that we want more bird houses and hedgehog homes as well as some more recycling events and less power use in school. This is because we want to share the word about how littering, using fossil fuels and polluting affects our important, one-of-a-kind environment
Inclusion Team
The Inclusion Team are very busy making sure that everyone is included. They have been discussing things to do to help make sure our awesome school is as inclusive as possible, and are thinking about ways of raising money for some projects that could help keep our school a lovely, happy place. We would like to paint our Friendship Bench and make it look nice and welcoming, and we are also considering making little bags, called Calm Bags, that people can use if they are feeling bad, because the Calm Bags have calming things inside them. We might also introduce people who go around the playground at breaktime, checking that everyone has someone to play with.
Inclusion Team Cake Sale February 2025 raised £200. We will be using this to put towards calm bags for the pupils to use at breaktime and lunchtime.
Agents of Change
Agents of Change is one of Mrs Rogers’ favourite sayings, as she thinks we should be Agents of Change in our local, wider community and our lives. Agents of Change have been interested in what they can do in our school to keep it a nice place to be. They came up with ideas on how to solve problems locally, such as using little monster faces to put over the bin with their mouth open, so when people throw their rubbish away they are also feeding the monster! Another idea was to give out food to unhoused people as a lot of children feel there is injustice in the world. How lovely! They wanted to stop littering, because it also harmed aquatic life and so have been looking at single use plastic. A couple of weeks ago, they were busy making the local community happy by giving out flowers to people! Were you lucky enough to have a mysterious flower handed to you?
Philanthropist Group
In the Philanthropist Group we have been thinking about what the school can do to raise money for the school. They have been considering different fundraising ideas and they have talked about having a sponsored bird watch. We have started a daily mile for Sapphire and Topaz, where we run laps of the playground, trying to get to a mile! Old shoe sales are another of our best ideas as well as having school Talent Shows where the children can show off their gifts while raising money for charities like Children In Need, the John Radcliffe Hospital, Blue Cross and Cancer research
Head Boy and Head Girl
Support the Head Teacher in the strategic and operational running of the School and act as role models for the other children in School.
Peer Mentors
New to 2025 are our Peer Mentors. Every year children apply for this prestigious role and are interviewed by the headteacher and MHST.
Each lunchtime there are Peer Mentors on duty on the playgrounds. They are there to be a listening ear if needed. They also look out for children who might want someone to play with and organise and run games.
The peer mentors also act as mental health ambassadors in the school. They run assemblies and provide another way for other children to talk if something is worrying them.
Play Leaders
Support effective and positive play by creating opportunities on the playground, maintaining the play equipment and taking the lead on being pro-actively friendly.
Whole School Opportunities in the past 2021-2024
School Council
One child is elected by their peers each year to represent their class at termly School Council meetings. The children take part in a range of opportunities to improve their school. In 2020-21 we spread some Christmas cheer into the community by sending out HEARTS INTO HOMES.
Eco Team
In line with our desire to be increasingly aligned with the environmental agenda, we are working wto make our School more environmentally aware. Two children from each year group will be involved in the club which, to date, has introduced Terra Cycling and raised awareness of correct recycling across the School. Looking ahead, the School is committing to becoming Net 0 by 2030!
Worship Warriors
We formed ( and continues into 2025) a new Worship Warriors committee in our school. 6 children across Year 1 to 6 are now planning, leading and evaluating collective worship each week. How exciting is that! See Collective Worship page.
