'Physically educated persons are those who have learned to arrange their lives in such a way that the habitual, physical activities they fully engage in make a distinctive contribution to their wider flourishing." James McAlister
PE Curriculum
PE at Clanfield Church of England Primary School aims to develop a fun, high-quality physical education curriculum that inspires all pupils to develop their personal growth and skills in a range of activities and sports. We will provide opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness, for example by learning dance routines or taking part in events with other schools. As part of our skills and attitudes for life offer, each child has at least one opportunity each year to compete in sport alongside children from our partnership schools which we believe builds character and helps to embed values such as cooperation and respect. We dedicate at least 2 hours of our curriculum to PE each week for each class, which enables children to develop an understanding of what makes a healthy lifestyle, a positive growth mind-set and the resilience to persevere with activities that they find challenging.
We are passionate about the need to teach children how to cooperate and collaborate with others, as part of a team, understanding fairness and equity of play to embed life-long values. We ensure that our PE lessons are fully inclusive of all our children, making every lesson accessible to all of our children, including those with special educational needs and disabilities. We use a scheme of work called Complete PE which enables us to provide a wide range of activities, develop skills and confidence in all areas of the national curriculum for PE.
In KS2, our pupils participate in swimming lessons at Brize Norton Pool, and also in a swimming gala once a year. We provide opportunities for all children to engage in extra-curricular activities after school, in addition to competitive sporting events within the curriculum. This is an inclusive approach which endeavors to encourage not only physical development, but also well-being for all pupils.
‘Obstacles don’t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don’t turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it’ Michael Jordan
Sports Premium
The PE and Sport Premium is funding provided to primary schools to enhance the provision of PE and sport. The Government has committed to keeping the funding in place until 2020. It is for schools to decide how the PE and Sport funding is spent. Schools receive PE and sport premium funding based on the number of pupils in years 1 to 6. Schools with 17 or more eligible pupils receive £16,000 and an additional payment of £10 per pupil.
At Clanfield CE Primary School we aim to use this funding to create a sustainable curriculum for all children throughout the school. Some of the funding has been invested in the professional development of staff to enhance the quality of teaching for all children. A new curriculum plan has also been developed to create a consistent approach to teaching PE across the school.
Principles for allocating the funding
To ensure that our PE & Sport Premium is spent in the most effective ways the following principles have been agreed:
